Urban Children Institute gives millions to health schemes

Awards worth more than eight million US dollars (USD) are being handed out to community-based projects benefiting children living in urban areas.

The money is being awarded by the Urban Child Institute (UCI), a non-profit organisation based in Memphis, Tennessee, which works to promote the health of children across America’s Mid-South.

Innovative

It does this through instigating innovative schemes which focus primarily on prevention and wellness, along with educational and scientific research-based initiatives.

The latest round of 36 grants, totalling $8,446,420 US dollars, are for schemes ranging from paediatric advocacy health programmes at the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, to education research being led by the University of Tennessee Health Science Centre.

Schemes

The grants cover a broad spectrum of schemes from local level upwards, the smallest being $12,000 USD to the Memphis Library Foundation, and the largest being more than $587,000 USD to the Genomics Biorepository for Underrepresented Children of The Mid-South.
