A new paper examining support for children and young people’s mental health in England has been published.

Statistics on the number of young people with mental health conditions in England, and their contact with service professionals, are included in the document released by the House of Commons library, a research service based in the UK parliament.

It also looks at treatment waiting times, as well as government policy, inpatient services for children and young people, mental health in schools, mental health legislation, such as the Mental Health Act, and suicide prevention.

“Successive governments have pledged to improve mental health support for children and young people…this briefing covers the structure of young people’s mental health services, recent policy from the Department of Health and Social Care, Department for Education and NHS England, and evaluations of government policy,” says the paper.
