1. What is the Child in the City International Seminar?

The Child in the City international seminar is a rolling programme of focused international events, each bringing together experts and policymakers from different relevant fields around a specific theme of the child-friendly city agenda. It is part of the bigger international Child in the City World Conference which will be held biennial in a different city around the world.

The Child in the City International Seminar Series aims to create opportunities for interested academics, practitioners, officials and policymakers, from around Europe and beyond, to share the latest research, innovation and good practice from the various cross-cutting disciplines and policy domains that most affect the lives of children in towns and cities. Each seminar will take a particular theme as its focus, seeking to progress the advancement of more child-friendly environments, communities and services in the public realm.

The focus for this fifth edition in the series of international seminars will be Children’s rights in times of corona. The seminar will be held on 19 & 20 May in Cascais, Portugal.

The seminar will bring together children’s professionals, play workers, city planners, landscape architects and policymakers, along with researchers, academics and advocates.

2. Why should I participate?

By attending you will be part of an international gathering for research and good practice in creating child friendly cities. This seminar will be focused on bringing together expertise from both the disciplines of sustainability and urban childhood. During the event all major practitioners, local politicians and academics will come together to discuss ways to strengthen sustainable cities and the position of children in the cities.

A two-day programme with dynamic keynote sessions, interactive parallel sessions and discussions as well as field trips to locations that are best practices in addressing the theme are set up in order for you to gain the latest and most important information on the theme.

The Child in the City Conferences and Seminars is one of the leading events on the latest child friendly policies and research studies.

This Child in the City international seminar is organized by the Child in the City Foundation and the City of Cascais. Conference Bureau is ProMedia Events & Conferences.

On Thursday morning registration begins at 08:00 while the opening ceremony begins at 09:00

The seminar is a 2-day event, 19 & 20 May 2022.

No, this event is a two day event registration only.

10. How many speakers will there be?

There will be four keynote speakers, and about twenty-five speakers in the parallel sessions including children’s professionals, university professors, researchers and play workers from all over the world will share their knowledge and research on child friendly cities and urban sustainability.

No, hotels are not included in the registration fee and are for your own costs.

13. Will there be food included during the seminar?

Yes, we will provide lunches and coffee/tea breaks throughout both seminar days. The networking dinner on Thursday evening 19 May is also included and offered to you by the city of Cascais.

14. How much is the registration fee for the seminar as a delegate?

Until Friday, 18 March 2022, you can take advantage of the early bird rate of €295 (excl. tax)/€356,95 (incl. tax). After 18 March , the registration costs are €345 (excl. tax)/€417,75 (incl. tax). If you are a student you can register for €145 (excl. tax)/€175,45 (incl. tax), please be aware that you will be required to provide a student ID at the registration desk.

15. How can I take part in the field trips?

Registration for the field trips will open within the next few weeks.
The field trips are included in the registration fee. You do not need to pay extra if you would like to join. After you have registered you will receive a link to the field trip registrations.
