BBC launches site promoting digital skills for children

The new site Own It provides questions, answers and tools to help children ages nine to twelve gain confidence and resilience online. This is part of the BBC’s investment of £34 million into programs and services including new apps, games and personal and participatory experiences for children of all ages.

Own It is the first product from that investment which specifically focuses on children ages nine to twelve. The aim is to help children remain safe online with resources, videos, and games addressing a range of topics such as online privacy and avoiding malware.

According to Dave Howard, Own It Senior Producer, Own It “will start to become integral and part of the fabric and the things that we do online for children and I really hope we start to see some of this stuff being talked about around breakfast tables and in schools and we become a brand and a resource from the BBC that is actively promoting the confidence and the health, the happiness of children and young people in online spaces.”
